Recovery |
February
2012 |
| Our
Disaster Recovery plan was tested this month. Following internal
procedures our second full test was conducted. We realised
that we can’t plan the weather, but our procedures still
worked when there was 4” of snow on the ground. Although
movement from one facility and getting work to outsource suppliers
took a little longer all production was completed within expected
timeframes and delivered to pre-agreed service levels. |

Commercial
Colour Press extended their portfolio of working in Education
with the production of urgent questionnaires and marketing
literature for a variety of Academies. Production was delayed
due to last minute changes and an extended print run (by
15,000 copies) – the only timeline not affected was
the delivery date. All copies were delivered in time for
the consultation meetings.

During
November the team prodcued it's yearly art book. Produced
entirely in-house from manuscripts and images supplied by
contributors. The page layout, design and print, was bound
on our Muller Martini sewing line. The global audience received
copies within 2 weeks of approved pdf’s. This year’s
edition underwent a dramatic design change, the same compliments
were however recevied from the recipients “It looks
terrific, as always.”

Mid October
Commercial Colour Press were tasked with printing in excess
of 45 individual jobs within a 3 day timescale. With print
runs ranging from 10 copies to 9300, the majority of which
were printed in two colours. All copies were produced in-house
at Hainault, using our Screen plate setter, Man Roland presses
and full in-house bindery. It looks as though this is the
last time this volume of two colour jobs will be seen. Due
to cutbacks in print budgets we are likely to see more black
and white print from the VOA in future. |

Important changes to Buying Solutions
The
Minister for the Cabinet Office, Francis Maude, recently sponsored
a Strategic Review of Buying Solutions. This review considered
how Buying Solutions could effectively support the cross Government
plans to reform procurement, deliver significant cost reductions
and improve its service to customers. The review concluded
that a transformed Buying Solutions will operate at the heart
of the newly created Government Procurement and Buying Solutions
will play a key role in delivering centralised procurement
of common goods and services. The
role of a transformed Buying Solutions
The
priority is to provide procurement savings for the UK Public
Sector as a whole and specifically to deliver centralised
procurement for Central Government Departments.
Buying
Solutions will become the ‘engine room’ of Government
Procurement, delivering expert sourcing, category and centralised
data management on behalf of Central Government. It has
been agreed that Buying Solutions will increase its management
of Central Government spend significantly during the next
two years.
